Digital Working Table | Energy Security and Geopolitics: The Role of Sustainable Biofuels for European Strategic Resilience

Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the growing fragmentation of global supply chains have brought energy security back to the centre of Europe's strategic agenda. In this evolving geopolitical landscape, sustainable biofuels are increasingly recognised not only as a decarbonisation solution, but also as a strategic asset to strengthen energy resilience and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels.
This Working Table will explore the contribution that sustainable biofuels can make to Europe's long-term energy security, industrial resilience and strategic autonomy. The discussion will focus on the main vulnerabilities of the European energy system, the policy frameworks needed to strengthen competitiveness, and the role of sustainable biofuels in building a more secure, resilient and diversified energy future.
